▷ the more you know▶ SIGHT: Jamie is, at first glance, a fairly average guy. He's average height, brown hair and eyes, with the slightest of tans, nothing that really sets him apart. His build is pretty good for a guy who makes his living sitting at a desk, but that's in part because Jamie still rides his bike most places and takes his laptop on the go to write. He's handsome enough, if not in the classic Hollywood sense. His jaw is a little too square for his face, his eyebrows a little too heavy.
But when Jamie smiles, everything lights up. And for all that he can be distant and distracted, in those moments when Jamie focuses on you, you are all that exists in the world. He's charismatic, charming in his enthusiasm and apparent honesty, though at 28, he's starting to reach an age where "boyish" is less and less of a compliment.
» DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS: Terrible fashion sense, often has a briefcase or backpack on him to tote a laptop around. Often wears glasses when he works as he's somewhat nearsighted.
» STYLE: When the occasion calls for it, Jamie can put together a decent outfit. That's mostly because it's not that hard to make a suit match with the rest of the suit. Left to his own devices, Jamie tends to go for t-shirts and shorts, sometimes jeans or khakis, with little regard for pattern, color, or style. He doesn't shy away from bright colors and nonsense slogans. He's never minded standing out in a crowd.
▶ SOUND: A warm, youthful tenor, smooth and light. Even when Jamie babbles and splutters and trips over his own words, it tends to seem like it comes from a place of honesty, his emotions running too fast for his tongue to keep up. When he takes his time, though, when he wants to be, he's very articulate, sometimes devastatingly so.
▶ SMELL:
▶ TOUCH: Jamie has very little concept of others' personal space, but god forbid you tread too far into his bubble. He might touch others light and fast, but he rarely lingers.
▶ DEMEANOR: Jamie demands attention. He doesn't necessarily mean to, not always; it's just the way he is. When he's loud, he's loud, expansive and brilliant and drawing everyone around him in, making people want to be a part of whatever magic he's weaving, whatever fantasy he's getting lost in. And when he's quiet, it's the pull of gravity, of wanting to know what's going on inside that silence, whether it's because he's writing or because he's on the verge of exploding in argument with his wife. Like Cathy, he needs and needs and needs. He needs to be loved, he needs to be believed in, he needs to be believed.
There's a part of him that likes to care for others, though he sometimes shows it in unusual ways, like the stories he writes for Cathy. He's always had such an active imagination, though, that even with the best of intentions, he can be a bit flighty, easily distracted. Jamie feels wholly and not much at all, both at once. It's easy for him to see things in abstract, as bits of story, but just as much so for him to invest himself completely in whatever's going on around him, and he's easily swept up in things. As quickly as that attention can be given, though, it's absolute. When he joins in someone else's ideas, his passion for that thing feels and is very real. Writing is one of the only things that can take up the entirety of his attention; when he's hard at work, he might as well not be in the room at all for all that he notices anything happening around him.
